One Hit Wonders of the 2000s (Part 31)

Your eyes do not deceive you. You didn't have too much to drink at last night's party and are waking up to find something so unimaginable that you want to start drinking again. You are not in some parallel universe where somebody finally follows through on something they promised to do almost three months ago.

Ok, that last is true, except that you're not in the Bizarro universe or anything.

(Thanks to io9)

Before I tell you our tale of woe, let me introduce this concept to our new readers, including someone whose name I will not divulge (so she can deny it later, once she's read this, of course). We are counting down the list of the one-hit wonders of the 2000s, song by song, and making hilarious fun of them. For the most part.

(Note: That last sentence applied to both the "hilarious" and the "making fun" part of that statement.)

We here at One-Hit Wonder Inc have been taking an unscheduled hiatus since our previous episode, just when it was time to end the show! There is one episode left in the One-Hit Wonders of the 2000s, but certain things came up that had to be taken care of before we could finish.

(Thanks to Zazzle)

This kept all of us here at the company extremely busy. Especially this guy.

(Thanks to Telemarketing From Home)

Actually, we were basically all out partying while he fixed everything up (idle hands are the devil's stepchildren! Or...something like that). But the ladies in the office occasionally stopped by to make sure he had some downtime.

(Thanks to IGN's High Horse blog)

Sorry, that was when the IRS agents showed up.

They certainly look like happy employees, don't they?

Anyway, we're back, for the final episode of the One-Hit Wonders of the 2000s!

As usual, you can find the list I'm taking these from here.

And you know what? I don't care if you go look ahead, because this is the last episode. In fact, I care about that as much as this guy cares about getting the chicks.

And here we go!

1) The Ting Tings: "That's Not My Name" (#39) (August 8, 2009)

Making videos on the cheap! Lack of sets definitely helps the budget, doesn't it?

Hey lady, did you ever consider maybe wearing a name tag? Or being more clear regarding what your name actually is? I know I hate being called Stacey, or Rachel, or Jenny.

Then again, that might be preferable to my real name, Mr. Mxyzptlk

(Thanks to Sunset over Slawit)

Or you could call me by the name I go by at the clubs.

Mr. Hunk.

(Ladies, don't ever tell me I don't do anything for you)

Still, they went to all the trouble and expense of making this song and video, all because she gets tired of being called the wrong name?

Take an ad out in the paper.

(Thanks to Freakoutville Express)

Ok, now *that* sounds a little extreme.

2) Jessie James: "Wanted" (#40) (August 29, 2009)

She's flirting with the FBI guys! How audacious!

Something tells me they're not following her for the stolen money.

It's just a hunch, though.

That's kind of low, though. Using your feminine wiles to get the gas station attendant to come out and look at your car. Especially because it's already a full-service gas station!

Know what I mean? Nudge, nudge. Wink, wink.

Don't worry, guys. She's into handcuffs.

I actually kind of like this song, and not just for the obvious reasons (where was the music world before videos?). It's one of the few recent pop songs that I can see myself actually not turning off if it came onto the radio.

Other songs, of course, make me want to do this.

Explode with good music, I mean! You didn't think I was going to get icky or anything, did you?

3) Dorrough: "Ice Cream Paint Job" (#27) (September 19, 2009)

We couldn't end the year without at least some rap, could we? That would be like having a burger without the meat!

Wait, that came out wrong. It would actually be like having a burger *with* the meat.

Because it would be heavenly if we had no rap in our final episode.

Still, beggars can't be choosers. You can't always get what you want (but do we REALLY need this?). You take what comes to you. When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade.

(Thanks to Adscam/The Horror)

Whoops! I guess I'd better quit while I'm ahead.

4) Breaking Benjamin: "I Will Not Bow" (#40) (September 19, 2009)

(I'll refrain from making an Obama joke here)

It's good to get a little rock and roll in the list, right before it ends! This is a palette cleanser after the last song. Ok, some of you may not think so, but I do.

Other than rent for the empty penthouse suite, and the usual money spent for their equipment, it's nice that they made the video on the cheap.

It lets them put the rest of their money into their clothes and tats!

5) Muse: "Uprising" (#37) (October 3, 2009)

Muse - Uprising (Clip) by WorMee

I didn't realize I knew this song until it started playing. Then, of course, it was obvious!

It's too bad the message of the song is so blatantly wrong, because the song itself (musically, anyway) is truly awesome to listen to. It really gets you into the groove, which I guess is its point.

I don't think we'll ever see any political accordion music.

(Thanks to SFGate)

Unless it's Devo, of course!

I do like one part of the video, though. If you're watching the video, pay attention for this near the end. If you're not, this is it.

(Thanks to MarcoPonce.com)

BOW DOWN TO YOUR TEDDY BEAR OVERLORDS!!!!!!

(and yes, I do realize the point they're making with that imagery. I just don't care)

6) Michael Franti & Spearhead (featuring Cherine Anderson): "Say Hey (I Love You)" (#18) (October 17, 2009)

Now *this* is an awesome song! A perfect blend of very sweet lyrics and catchy music that just gets you dancing in your seat.

(There is no truth to the rumour that this song made me have to buy a new chair)

In fact, I can't really joke about it, except that I hope I never get a barber like the guy at 2:42 in the video. Save your dancing for your own time! I don't want random razor cuts in my hair!

Unless it will get the ladies after me. Then go ahead and dance, brother!!!

7) Ester Dean: "Drop it Low" (#38) (October 31, 2009)

Featuring Chris Brown? Uh oh.

Oh no! Autotune!!!!!! I guess, this being the last episode and everything, we have to revisit every horror that we've experienced over the last 31 episodes.

It just won't die!

Just say to myself. I can do this. I can do this. I will not let it drive me crazy...

(Thanks to FunnyCartoonPictures)

Ok, I lasted less than a minute.

Sorry.

8) Owl City: "Fireflies" (#1) (November 7, 2009)

And we end 31 long weeks (if you don't count the hiatus) with a #1 song!!!! How fitting.

It's such a sweet song, too, though the video starts becoming quite surreal very quickly. That's ok, though. The guy adds a bit or normality to the whole thing.

Until the toys come to life, tie him up, and put him in the closet, that is.

Because you know they want this guy to take over the world.

He's worth more unopened, though that might inhibit his becoming emperor.

And there you have it! Much delayed, but we have finally come to the end of the one-hit wonders of the 2000s. It's been a long, arduous journey.

Yes, I did make the interns carry my suitcases. Hair care products weigh a ton!

Anyway, it's been a journey through horrible music, but some good stuff as well. I hope you've enjoyed these as much as we at One-Hit Wonders Inc have. To you newcomers, I encourage you to go through the archives and see what you've been missing!

I hope you'll still like me after doing that.

What's next for us here at the company? I don't know. We'll be thinking of re-inventing ourselves in some way. After we pay our tax debt to society.

I hope this guy's our cellmate.

But we'll be back one of these days. With something creative! And inspired! And, probably, bad. Though whether that will be the subject or the writing, I'll let you be the judge.

In the meantime, now that this is finally over, it's time for me to engage in my other passion.

I can come knock down your world record domino setup next. I charge good rates!

One Hit Wonders of the 2000s (Part 30)

We're undergoing a few changes here at One-Hit Wonder Inc, in preparation for the fact that our very reason for existence is going away soon.

When one-hit wonders are no more, what use is a company devoted to one-hit wonders? And even worse, what will the interns do for a job when we're done here?

Should they start a car wash fund-raiser?

(Thanks to Squidoo)

They appear to be a bit unclear on the concept, both in location and the fact that you don't make money in a car wash without boobs!

So really, they're a bit too...I don't want to say anything bad, but "stupid" to really make it on their own.

I really am a benevolent master...I mean, CEO, you know. I even provide benefits!

(Thanks to Nelson Carpenter)

Just look at the fun they're having during their 15 minute lunch. Though you know, they really should spend that time eating, since eating at your desk isn't allowed.

Silly ladies.

Anyway, we'll have this place shipshape in no time, since the end of days is coming fast!

In the meantime, we have a decade to finish! Welcome to the one-hit wonders of the 2000s. We're entering 2009, and I have a sense of foreboding, a rock-hard pit in my stomach, wondering what this final year will hold for us.

Or that could be the 20 cupcakes I had at 2:00 am this morning.

As usual, you can find the list of songs here.

Don't get ahead of me and go look, though. Or my staff may have to "deal" with you.

(Thanks to Coding in Paradise)

And no, you're not the one with the stick.

Here we go!

1) Ron Browz: "Pop Champagne" (#22) (January 3, 2009)

Y'know, Rap is bad enough, but Autotuned Rap? Here I was, having a nice, calm, peaceful Sunday morning, the type of Sunday morning that even the most religious person would envy.

And then this happens?

It's making me want to go nuts. I'm going to have get up out of my chair, go outside, and stand on the street corner ranting about this.

Just let me get my hat.

Ok, I'm ready. The streets of Vancouver will shudder in fear once I've started.

You think I should actually wear pants with this thing?

2) The Veronicas: "Untouched" (#17) (February 7, 2009)

THIS ONE AUTO-STARTS - YOU MIGHT WANT TO STOP IT UNTIL YOU'RE READY FOR IT

Yay! More electronic cra...I mean, goodness!!!!! Put that together with the most imaginative lyrics I've ever heard in a pop song, bar none (Sting's got nothing on these ladies for introspection), and you've got a real winner of a song! I'm surprised they didn't win a Grammy for this one.

I really am.

(Thanks to Rickyzwalters)

Whoops! I guess I laid it on a bit too thick there.

3) A.R. Rahman: "Jai Ho (You Are My Destiny)" (#15) (March 5, 2009)

This song is from the wildly successful film, Slumdog Millionaire, and the song is composed by A.R. Rahman, one of the most successful film composers ever.

However, the version that charted in the States (that's the video I've embedded) was performed by the Pussycat Dolls (with cameos by Rahman), who are decidedly *not* one-hit wonders (though some would argue they should be).

Confused?

Yeah, me too. So how's the song?

I am really getting tired of electronic voice augmentation. Our entire music industry seems to be heading into an altered state that we might not be able to get out of. This could be our #1 artist in the year 2015.

(Thanks to Memory Alpha)

Though I've heard she's got the moves.

4) Maino: "All of the Above" (#39) (March 21, 2009)

(This is the extended version)

Can I just let out a scream now, or do I have to wait?

Another Autotune masterpiece!! Looking at the comments on the song, it sounds like the guy's story is quite poignant. But I can't get past the combination of Rap and the electronic changes to his voice!

It is literally drilling a hole in my eardrum.

Yes, I do mean "literally." Here's what it's using.

(Thanks to UberReview)

Tim Taylor would be envious.

5) Asher Roth: "I Love College" (#12) (April 11, 2009)

Ummmm....is it too late to take back everything I said above? This guy could use a little augmentation.

Maybe take it to such a high pitch that we can't hear it?

That would be a good start.

Though I do feel sorry for the dogs, in that case.

(Thanks to Jackson Riley)

Yeah, it's either you or us, pal.

6)Shinedown: "Second Chance" (#7) (June 20, 2009)

(sorry for the audio quality - best I could find that was able to be embedded)

Can it be? Am I hearing this correctly?

Why yes, it's a NORMAL SONG! I don't believe it!

It's already the best song I've heard today, just by default.

And it's actually not a bad song in its own right, either. A bit poignant, some good guitar riffs, and lots of beach screaming.

Because you know who really likes songs with lots of beach screaming.

*points thumbs at me*

(Thanks to Hot Glove)

This guy.

7) Kristinia DeBarge: "Goodbye" (#15) (June 20, 2009)

Oh no! Poor guy. It's the "5 Sister Dance Send-Off" way of breaking up with a guy.

That can be so intimidating! The guy wants to beg and plead for her to take her back, but she's got all of those "friends" there.

I'll bet they're hired dancers or something. She's too shy to break up with him by herself, so she hired some people.

That's how I'd do it.

Good thing she waited until she was 19 to do this video, too. Wouldn't want any inappropriate lusting or anything.

(Thanks to ECSB Insider)

Yeah, you heard what I'm saying.

And that's a wrap for part one of 2009! Be here next week, for the ultimate conclusion (yes, I'm a redundant fellow, why do you ask?) of the one-hit wonders!!!

And then, be ready for a re-invention so vast, so startling, that people are already starting to panic.

This will be so mind-bending that...well, that I haven't thought of it yet.

How big of a celebration will it be?

It's a Big One

Or, you know, maybe it will just be low-key.

Anyway, that's next week. In the meantime, it's time to start my day.

I swear they switched doors while I wasn't looking.

One Hit Wonders of the 2000s (Part 29)

It's been over a month since an edition of the one-hit wonders has been posted. Lots has happened in that time period too.

I'm a month older, for one thing.

Where have I been? I've been off on vacation! A fabulous month of sun, beach, sand, and the occasional red meat meal.

(Thanks to the Coventry Telegraph)

I have to admit that I'm a bit tired after all that fun and frolic.

So, did you miss me? I think the interns in the office did. This was their reaction when I came back.

(Thanks to Runner's World)

I'm not quite sure why.

Anyway, it's time to get back into the swing of things. I haven't heard any bad music in a month! We should probably get started and rectify that.

Welcome to episode 29 of the one-hit wonders of the 2000s! We here at One-Hit Wonder Inc work tirelessly to entertain you.

(Thanks to Ferdy on Films)

Whoops! That's from my OSHA file. How did that get in there?

As usual, you can find the link I'm taking these from here.

Here we go!

1) Secondhand Serenade: "Fall for You" (#21) (September 20, 2008)

You know buddy, if you want to keep a healthy relationship, you might not want to take videos of her in her lingerie while she's sleeping and then posting them to the Internet.

Just a thought.

In fact, he's so hooked on it that he films the fun stuff *and* the meltdown. Even the leaving part!

Dude, you have to do something about the fetish.

Soon, he'll be out there filming everything, until the inevitable happens.

(Thanks to NaplesNews)

And then where will he be? Dateless and with a broken camera.

2) M.I.A.: "Paper Planes" (#4) (September 27, 2008)

I really don't know what to say about this one. It's an attempt to be relevant, as it can be interpreted either as a song about attitudes toward immigrants as well as something about weapons sales.

Or, you know, you can just interpret it as a rap with an annoying backbeat that gets on your nerves after a while and makes you want to go postal.

(Thanks to Motifake)

That will work too.

3) Estelle: "American Boy" (#9) (September 27, 2008)

With Kanye West? Ugh.

But then Estelle starts singing, and I actually really like this song. She's got a great voice and the beat is very catching.

And then Kanye comes back.

Watch the excitement level wane to a point that even Cialis can't bring it back.

Not even with a cool bathtub.

(Thanks to Chickaboomer)

It's just gone. I won't hold it against Estelle, though. You gotta do what you gotta do, right?

4) Jennifer Hudson: "Spotlight" (#24) (October 15, 2008)

(incidentally, where's the Old Spice guy? Why do we want Fabio? Go away!!!)

Hudson seems confined to the R&B charts, with the exception of this song, but she's such a talented singer that it's a shame.

This song is really good, so good that I can't really joke about it at all.

Let's see if the Duck Army agrees.

I'd say that's a yes. In fact, they're on the march to kidnap Hudson and make her sing for the Duck God!

Somebody should really call her security.

5) Saving Abel: "Addicted" (#20) (November 22, 2008)

It looks like a porn shoot! But cleaned up for national airplay.

And thus, deadly dull, I'm sure.

Wow, is this video geared to the lowest common denominator. Lots of skin, groping, a song that's explicitly about how good a lay the woman is.

I should turn this off right now.

Nah....

(Thanks to the Bachelor Pad)

I'm busy.

6) O.A.R.: "Shattered (Turn the Car Around)" (#36) (December 13, 2008)

Embedding disabled (stupid WMG), but you can see it here.

It's not a bad song, though it's rather generic.

Thus, I shall make fun of WMG instead.

Really, WMG? You don't want your music passed around for others to listen to? Hey, maybe this song might have more than 521,000 hits since October 2009! You're obviously not trying to hide it from people (otherwise, why put it on Youtube?), yet you don't want bloggers and other sites to be able to embed it.

Quick and dirty poll (for those of you who have gotten this far, so perhaps it will be a bit skewed): How many of you play the embedded videos here? And how many of you actually click on a Youtube link to go off-site and watch a video?

I'd be willing to bet that the latter number is less than the former one.

What's the concern? Music piracy?

Whoa. This is getting much too serious.

Let's lighten things up a little bit.

And there you have it! We've come to the end of 2008, and it's actually not been a bad year (though it was artificially lengthened). We've got one more year to go and then everybody in this office will be out of work.

I may even have to downsize myself.

It has come to that.

Unless I think of something else to do!

In the meantime, it's time to start my Sunday.

Time to take Grandma out on her weekly outing from the old folks home.

Nobody argues when she wins Tuesday night Bingo every week.

One Hit Wonders of the 2000s - Short Hiatus

Just wanted to let everybody know that I'm taking a break from the regular music posts. Just a couple of weeks.

I know, I know. I said that missing them would put me off of ever doing them again.

But we're going away for 10 days starting tomorrow, and I just wasn't up to it today. We'll still be gone next Sunday, so that's out too.

I will be back in two weeks, though! To finish up the last three or four episodes.

And then I don't know what the hell I'm going to do.

Y'all haven't been that forthcoming with ideas. :P

I may be posting on the road, so the blog itself won't be taking a break (at least no more so than usual). But these posts take a lot of time, and I just won't have it.

Maybe I'll make up for the humour deficiency by doing a couple of "Disturbed" posts.

Either way, your wait won't be too long.

Brave heart!

One Hit Wonders of the 2000s (Part 28)

It's Father's Day here at One-Hit Wonder Inc, and we like to give our slaves...um, I mean interns a chance to be with their dads on this special day.

Hey, is that my intern from Boston talking to those guys? I wonder what they could be talking about?

Anyway, I like to think that these 20-30 minutes are the best of the year for them and their dads. They get to maintain that special bond that's developed over the years.

It's not like they have much time on any other day.

And that's why I'm the number 1 Boss.

(Thanks to HazzardNet)

Ok, number 2, maybe.

We all want what's best from our dads, even more so on this very important day. Some of us want our dads to come support us when we join the theater, giving us valuable insight into our performance.

(Thanks to Cast and Mend)

And others want our dads to support us through our sports endeavours.

Or how about supporting your bad music? Because that's why we're here, you know.

Welcome to this week's episode of the one-hit wonders of the 2000s. I won't be making the usual "pre-game" jokes and everything, because I already droned on long enough about this stupid "Dad" thing. In this era of conservationism, one must save as many electronic bytes as one can, you know.

We shouldn't be wasting them.

As usual, you can find the list I've taken these from here. Don't jump ahead of me (not that there's much left to jump ahead of), because if you do, Dad will get very angry.

(Thanks to The Shark Guys)

Here we go!

1) Metro Station: "Shake It" (#10) (June 28, 2008)

Yay, young guys vandalizing things! Where have we seen this before recently? I couldn't tell you.

Is it just me, or does the lead singer give off a Keanu Reeves vibe? And not in a good way.

I have to wonder if that floor is electrified, because those guys look like they're having spasms, not dancing.

Actually, that would be a cool reality show, wouldn't it? Electrified Dancing. See who can stay airborne and avoid contact with the floor the longest.

These guys would easily win.

2) Flyleaf: "All Around Me" (#40) (June 28, 2008)

Wow. What a white room! Though I think somebody should call the police for that obvious mass murder that just took place in the apartment above.

I'm just sayin'.

Must be a bunch of Klingons up there! (Sorry, Star Trek VI joke)

Is it just me, or does she look like she's having some kind of faith healing experience?

They actually look alike!

(I had no idea that they're so popular on the Christian music charts when I wrote that joke, by the way)

3) V.I.C.: "Get Silly" (#29)(July 5, 2008)

No video I can embed (which I guess I should be happy about), but you can find it here.

Not that I would suggest it if you want to keep your sanity.

You'd be more likely to stay sane if you got onto one of these.

At least it would be an interesting mind-blow.

4) Flobots: "Handlebars" (#37) (August 9, 2008)

I'm a sucker for interesting animation, so this already is cool.

I think I went through about 10 different thoughts as that video went on, though. Started out seeming like a wonderful tribute to human achievement, and then came crashing down into some chilling indictment of...totalitarianism, I think? Of course, not real totalitarians. It turns out to be an indictment on humanity's ability to create things and yet channel that creative ability into destructive things. It's a very "pro-peace" song in that sense.

It would make its point even better if it didn't have the incredibly violent and sadistic Che Guevara portrayed as a hero in it.

Sorry, getting too serious here. Time for something light.

5) Shwayze featuring Cisco Adler: "Corona and Lime" (#23) (August 16, 2008)

Wow, this is almost the perfect song! All the T&A but without the rap! Ok, there's a bit of rap in there, but it's actually pretty good.

This is just a fun song, though I don't know if the woman should be flattered being compared to a beer.

I guess that's just how some guys relate.

At least he didn't say that she could be his Bud Light. Just like Kate Moss in the swimming pool, thin and extremely watered-down.

Maybe she'd like to be compared to a Dos Equis?

Ummmmm, never mind.

6) Gavin Rossdale: "Love Remains the Same" (#27) (September 13, 2008)

Yay, gratuitous beefcake shower shots!

Ladies, you can thank me by sending money.

This is late in the video, but did they just use a shot of him cutting a steak when he says "mistakes we have made"? With the steak shot being right where "mistakes" was said? Wow, is that deep or what?

Or is he saying "steaks that we made," like lamenting the fact that he can't barbecue with his woman anymore? He was talking about drinking earlier, and he's sitting down to a nice (if thin) steak dinner.

I'm seriously contemplating the meaning of this

(Thanks to TravelPod)

and it's wrecking the ability to listen to the rest of this song.

And there you have it! Week 2 of 2008, and it's actually not that bad compared to last week.

Of course, that's like saying dying of a heart attack is preferable to bubonic plague.

The end result's the same. It's just the journey that's better.

I've been thinking about what to do when this is all over (besides go to Disneyland). How about Top 10 celebrity mugshots?

(Thanks to AbsoluteNow)

Nah, too easy. I need to work a little harder for these every week, if they're going to be satisfying.

I'll keep thinking.

Until then, come back next week for more musical goodness.

Ok, how about strangeness?

But now it's time to start my Sunday.

You definitely have to watch those rodents carefully. They'll sneak up on you.

One Hit Wonders of the 2000s (Part 27)

It's hard to believe, but we're starting to wind down the decade here at One Hit Wonder Inc. There are only six more episodes left before we get to the end of the decade!

I've started thinking about what's coming next.

(Thanks to the Daily Mail)

No, no kiddie music!

(Thanks to Coopernundrums)

Too bad, kid.

Anyway, while I'm thinking, I'm going to throw it out to you, dear reader (and not so dear readers, but not to those of you who hate me because I'm beautiful).

What would you like to see in a weekly music show? Nothing before the 80s, as there have to be videos or something I can post on here. There also has to be a site or list somewhere that I can take them from. In other words, I can't do the Top 10 hits of Joe Pesci or anything like that.

(Warning: Language)

So get your thinking caps on! We've got 6 weeks (maybe 7, as I may take a one-week break) before I need to do something!

Or I can just let the whole thing go.

Ok, ok!!! I will come up with something.

I don't want the world to fall into chaos.

Anyway, on to this week's episode! We're entering 2008, and frankly, I'm scared. I'm scared that we're going to be overcome by crap rap. But I shall move forward courageously!!!

As usual, you can find the list I'm taking these from here.

And...

What? Oh, thanks, HAL.

Let me just check my phone.

Hey, what's this picture? I can't quite tell....ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!! How did I get on a New York Congressman's texting list?

Must be my flowing blonde hair.

(Thanks to Indesign Studio)

Here we go!

1) Yael Naim: "New Soul" (#7) (February 23, 2008)

Wow, that's one cheaply built apartment. Did you see how easily she pushed that wall down?

I think somebody should sue those contractors. What have our building standards come down to?

Of course, I probably should have thought of that before hiring them to do my vacation home down in Arizona.

We're only there once a year, so it's probably ok.

2) Buckcherry: "Sorry" (#9) (March 1, 2008)

(Wow, sorry for the crappy quality, but it's the only one I could find)

I'm sitting here, and I honestly don't know what to make of this song.

Yeah, it is kind of an uplifting song, in an "I screwed up" kind of way.

Other things they're sorry for:

1) Convincing Simon Cowell to leave American Idol

2) Leaving the toilet seat up

3) Hacking a Congressman's Twitter account

4) All the rain in Tennessee

However, they refuse to take credit for Justin Bieber's popularity.

Assholes.

3) Shawty Lo: "Dey Know" (#31) (March 22, 2008)

Shawty Lo - Dey Know by TBOVIDEOS

Oh, my. Here we go! I guess we should have known this was coming. More Rap!!!

We have to fight this, I say! Let me get out my fighting garb.

(Thanks to Joke 7x24)

Of course, I man the hatches by actually filling the hatches.

Shawty recently had some surgery which meant he couldn't sing for a bit. This was the crowd's response.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

(Disclaimer for those who might be confused: No, he didn't just have surgery)

4) 2 Pistols- featuring Tay Dizm: "She Got It" (#24) (April 19, 2008)

Hey, I have a great idea! Let's combine the two worst ideas in the world!

No, not Cop Rock

Rap and Autotune!!!

Yes, like adding jalapeno peppers to your liver and onions, this one just leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

5) James Otto: "Just Got Started Loving You" (#27) (May 17, 2008)

Woo! Another Country artist crossing over briefly before he decides that he doesn't like the food they serve over here.

I can't say I blame him too much, though. They get awesome burgers and fries, chocolate cake, onion rings, deviled eggs, and all that good stuff.

This is what we get on this side of the aisle.

(Thanks to Express Night Out)

Who wouldn't go Country?

6) Duffy: "Mercy" (#27) (May 31, 2008)

(Yes, it does abruptly cut off at the end)

I *love* this song. I first saw Duffy in a concert broadcast on HDNet, and thought she was really good. But this song is the one that really grabbed me. I only learned later (like, today), that this was her only hit over in the US. It certainly doesn't surprise me that the song was popular.

On the other hand, the song title does lend itself to a couple of jokes. I'm really begging for mercy from those guys who are trying to dance in the video. I'm looking really closely, but I can't see the strings. But somebody has to be controlling them from above.

And they're begging Duffy for mercy from the punishment for bad dancing! I know I'm a hard boss on my interns, but setting them on fire? The worst I do is lock them in a room with Gilbert Godfried.

Ok, that might be against the Geneva Convention, much less OSHA laws.

And there you have it! We're through the first part of 2008, and it hasn't been *too* bad.

Ok, well, it was kind of bad. Yes. I was just trying to put a positive spin on the whole thing, HAL.

Sheesh, you're such a downer!

I will keep hunting for some better stuff, though. This hunting is hard work.

(Thanks to Just Say Pictures)

But carry on, we shall! Because if I don't...well, let's be serious. Nobody else would be stupid enough to.

It's time to start my Sunday, though.

Damn Xerox. They just don't make them like they used to.
